Mike Zabrin started as a blues bassist touring with Chicago Blues Hall of Famers at Kingston Mines and Buddy Guy's Legends. His original band, Mike Zabrin's Funktastic, became a house band at The Bassment and Untitled Supper Club in River North. The band put out albums featuring members of Kool & The Gang and Fishbone, receiving press from Bass Player Magazine, Jazz Corner, and publications worldwide. A Columbia College Chicago grad and former GM of School of Rock, Mike took that same roster of world-class musicians and built Funktastic Productions into one of the Midwest's premier wedding and event entertainment companies, earning The Knot Hall of Fame and WeddingWire's Couples Choice Awards along the way.
Before Marisa Zabrin was running two entertainment companies, she was managing large-scale corporate conferences and working in sales. She coordinated the kind of events where one missed detail means hundreds of unhappy people. That precision is what she brought to Funktastic Productions and DJ Hybrid Chicago, where she’s built the systems, vendor relationships, and client experience from the ground up. She and Mike met in 2020 and got married at the InterContinental in Chicago, which means she knows exactly what it feels like to be the one planning the big day. When couples say working with DJ Hybrid was the easiest part of their wedding, that has Marisa's fingerprints all over it.

We started DJ Hybrid because we kept meeting couples who loved the idea of live music but thought a full band was out of reach. Or those who couldn’t decide between a live musician and a DJ. We knew we could give them something that combined the best of both live music worlds — at a price point that makes sense, and in a way they’ve never heard before.
